Process industry energy analysis
The process industry energy analysis is a two-stage application of the industrial energy analysis for the energy-intensive process industry. The analysis focuses on mapping the energy saving opportunities of production processes, as well as the opportunities for saving in the industrial service systems and building technology of the facility being audited.
The process industry energy analysis focuses on all primary and secondary energy flows and energy saving opportunities of the object for inspection. Because production processes have a key role in the energy analysis, it is vital that the production and maintenance organisations of the plant participate in the analysis.
The process industry energy analysis consists of two stages:
- Stage 1 (Factory audit), aims to investigate the overall use and distribution of energy and to report evident saving opportunities that have to do with operation technology and require investments. Stage 1 also reports any need for complementary analyses detected during the analysis.
- Stage 2 comprises the separate complementary analyses proposed during stage 1.
Selection of industrial energy audit model
The process energy analysis model is used when the plant’s annual energy and water costs are over €3 million. According to the Ministry of Employment and the Economy’s (MEE) general guidelines for energy auditing, the industrial sector auditing models can be chosen depending on the annual costs (excluding VAT) of energy and water in the audited facilities as follows:
- 0-15,000 €/a Building energy inspection only;
- 15,000-35,000 €/a Real estate energy audit, industrial energy audit, or industrial energy analysis;
- 35,000-1,400,000 €/a Industrial energy audit or energy analysis;
- 1,400,000-3,000,000 €/a Industrial energy analysis only:
- over 3 mill. €/a Industrial energy analysis or process industry energy analysis.
